The GBAS survives on the donations of funds, goods, labour and time.
In the past 2 years the number of dogs and cats coming through the shelter has increased significantly. We have a very small part-time staff that manages the volunteer shifts including scheduling, training and monitoring, stocking supplies, the facilities (is the furnace working, the snow tires need changing), vet schedules, adoption application reviews and surrender application reviews to just list a few, all while ensuring consistency and safety. The volunteers are doing the bulk of the work, cleaning, caring for the animals, training other volunteers, fund-raising, recruiting. We also encourage the participation of community living volunteers and students who can develop skills and confidence working in the shelter or at fund-raising events. |
Here are just some of the generous donors
whose support allows us to continue to help those who can't help themselves. |
Our Wish List
The GBAS is incredibly grateful for in-kind donations to our animals. Our small shelter re-homes over 100 cats and dogs annually. We rely on the generosity of the public to support our life-saving work. Click here for our wish list of items that we most desperately need.

ProjectsIn 2018, the GBAS, due in large part to its success in following its vision, was forced to re-evaluate its thinking on how best to maintain its high service standards to its animals, owners and potential new adopters. We are therefore considering a number of PROJECTS for possible implementation with the objectives of improving the well-being of our animals, ensuring a steady revenue stream to support the shelter and increasing public interest in GBAS.
We invite you to read about our: In 2018, a generous donation enabled us to start a project to make kennel life more pleasant for our dogs and life easier for our volunteers by modernizing and increasing the size of our kennels. This project will be completed by June 2019. We welcome ideas and sponsorship of individual projects. Much of the growth of GBAS can be attributed to the sponsorship of such projects by supporters with vision and the desire to make it happen. If any member of the GBAS, any shelter volunteer or any member of the general public are interested in developing a project or adding an idea, please send us your idea or proposal via email: gb-animalshelter@hotmail.com |
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our shelter.
