2022 Year End Newsletter
A message from the President
Greetings everyone! Here we are at the end of 2023. We have done lots of work on the shelter building and grounds over the summer months to ensure the animals will be comfortable as the cold weather approaches. Inside, we added insulation in the back kennel area where the dogs are housed. We have also made winter preparations in case of heavy snow days when only one or two volunteers can get in. Outside, a large section of our grounds has now been enclosed by chain link fencing for volunteers to take the dogs out to run freely. It is a wonderful area and the dogs and volunteers love it! Trails will be groomed for them to use in that area in the snow.
Our staff and volunteers continue to do an excellent job of meeting safety and health requirements while caring for our animals. They have found loving homes for 106 cats and 45 dogs so far this year, including several
litters of puppies and kittens. We are very fortunate to have so many dedicated volunteers as well as our hard working office staff who all go the extra mile to look after our animals and find them caring forever homes. A huge thank you to everyone for your help!
Once again, we’ve had a number of generous donations from individuals, bequests and corporate partners this year and we are truly grateful for their help as well. We had another large yard sale on June 24 plus several smaller fundraisers and the revenue from our Cat’s Meow shop on Boucher Street in Meaford, all of which keep us going.
On behalf of the animals, thank you!

Shelter News
We are sad to say goodbye to shelter staff member Chloe who moved on recently to another position. We thank her for doing an excellent job with our animals and we wish her well in her new job. Staying on with us are our shelter supervisors Laurie and Levana, who do a fantastic job meeting the public, overseeing our volunteers, and providing excellent care to our animals. We welcome our new part-time staff member Kerilynn, who started recently and will be working mornings.
We are still looking for another shelter staff member to complete our team. The full job description is available on our website. It can be a challenging but very rewarding position, juggling animal care, customer service, and volunteer management and training (with good doses of empathy and humour thrown in).

The Cat's Meow
Our Cat’s Meow store in Meaford is a charity shop that sells donated small household goods such as lamps, tables, chairs, books, decor items and kitchen implements, among other things and is totally volunteer run. We are now open four days per week - Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 am to 2 pm.
A combination of fantastic donations of goods and steady sales provide a welcome source of income for the shelter! Thanks to all who have donated items to sell and to our hard working volunteers who run the store! The store location is 40 Sykes Street, around the corner on Boucher Street. Come and visit! |
