Job Description
- Duties and Responsibilities
- Open and close the shelter and greet visitors during open hours
- Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and social media
- Arrange appointments: surrenders, adoption visits, volunteer interviews, vet visits
- Conduct adoption meet and greets, evaluate applications, process adoptions
- Process transactions and manage cash, cheques, and receipts
- Update shelter website as needed
- Monitor GBAS social media pages (Facebook and Instagram), including updating pages with animals available for adoption and responding to comments and messages
- Schedule daily volunteer shifts, some training of other staff or volunteers
- Act as a leader in emergency situations ranging from escaped dogs/cats, to injured animals or volunteers, to fire/smoke alarms. Ensure proper policies and procedures are followed.
- Provide on-call support for volunteers and for emergencies.
- Animal care, including cleaning, socializing, administering and tracking medications, feeding, ensuring adherence to isolation and quarantine protocols, monitoring health and wellbeing and arranging vet checks when necessary.
- Behavior modification and training for animals as needed
Qualifications and Education
- Ontario Secondary School Diploma
- Experience working with animals: veterinary offices, grooming, dog training, or similar, and comfortable handling cats and dogs of all sizes
- Experience working with the public or in customer service
- Experience working with volunteers or managing staff
- Computer skills - comfortable with Microsoft Office and email platforms, basic website updating, understanding of social media platforms including Facebook and Instagram
- Able to remain calm and professional in high stress situations.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license
